Summer Reading Y7-Y13

Dear Students and Parents,

At ISL we believe that one of the ways students can improve their literacy skills is through reading.

We would like all students entering Years 7-11 in September 2012 to read a minimum of THREE books of which 2 should be in English before school starts. Additionally, students are suggested to read different genres as detailed on the ‘Genre Summer Reading Log’.

Students entering Years 12-13 in September 2012 are encouraged to read for leisure over the summer holiday. This is in addition to the required reading given to students for the Diploma Language A1 courses. There is no minimum requirement for their extra reading, nor is it necessary to read solely in English. In fact, it would be an excellent idea for the reading to represent the variety of languages in which you communicate

Book lists (listed as a Glog) compiled by students for Years 7-11 along with the librarian’s recommendations can be found at the end of this page.

Students in Years 7-11 will be expected to produce a log of their reading to their English teacher, using the ‘Genre Summer Reading Log’ form, upon return to school in September. The students will need this to create their reading ‘blog’ at the beginning of the school year.

Suggested shopping sites include amazon.co.uk or your favourite local bookshop. A ‘bookshop’ trip is essential at the start of the holidays.

Have an enjoyable summer and happy reading!
