We are pleased and proud to welcome you to the International School of Lausanne web site.
Our School overlooks forests, mountains and beautiful Lake Geneva (Lac Léman) and is within an hour of the stunning Swiss Alps. The International School of Lausanne is a not-for-profit, English-language day school that emphasizes academic excellence and rigor in a supportive school and family environment. It prepares students for a global education and entrance to the best universities in the world.
At present over 600 students are enrolled and many parents are engaged to work in international companies in Lausanne or along the Swiss Riviera.
The precise location of the School is in the small town of Le Mont on the northern edge of Lausanne. We have served the local and international community since 1962 and now our wonderful new campus, opened in 2005, offers modern, high quality facilities for students and teachers. The attractive building is fully equipped and the grounds include a football field, a multi-sports arena, playgrounds and a landscaped garden. The School has a double sports hall but also uses local swimming pools and, of course, the mountains, for the skiing programme.
The School comprises the Primary School (ages 3-10), including the Early Childhood Centre; and the Secondary School, made up of the Middle and High Schools (ages 11-13 and 14-18 respectively). We have a very friendly and approachable staff and, besides the Director, there is an Assistant Director, who is also responsible for the Secondary School. There are also two principals who are responsible for the Primary School and the High School.
Throughout the School, our curriculum and educational strategies are drawn from best practices from around the world. In the Primary School the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IBPYP) is in place and in Years 7 to 11 we have introduced the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IBMYP) curriculum. Students in Years 12 and 13 (Grades 11 and 12) follow the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). The students’ results in the IBDP range from very good to excellent.
A Learning Support Programme, including English as an Additional Language classes, is also an important part of our curriculum.
Many co-curricular and extra-curricular activities are offered to enhance the programme. Some of these include skiing, soccer, basketball, unihockey, cross-country, swimming, art and craft, drama, technology and stage band.
A School Board of 8 to 12 members governs the School. The Board sets general policy and budgetary limits within which the Director operates the School.
ISL is an IB world school, accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).
The School is also a member of The Swiss Group of International Schools (SGIS).
Our School has a wonderful atmosphere built around friendship, genuine happiness, and inspired empowerment. This stimulating, caring and positive environment is one of the first things parents comment upon when visiting us. Our well-motivated staff and students are rightly proud of where they teach and learn.
Once again, welcome to this site and I hope you find it interesting and helpful.
