Le Mont-sur-Lausanne - A Few Facts

Le Mont-sur-Lausanne, as its name indicates, is situated above Lausanne at an altitude of 580 to 815 metres above sea level. The commune covers an area of approximately 10 km², of which 15% are forests. The current population is around 5’200 and is expected to double over the next ten years.

Situated only 2 km from the Lausanne Cathedral, the site of the school is 660 metres above sea level.

Arriving at the School

The school should be approached by the Chemin de la Clochatte, which is perpendicular to the Chemin de la Grangette (previously named Chemin du Grand Pré).

Primary School and Secondary School students access the building through the main entrance of the main building, while the Early Childhood Centre children have their own entrance to the east, directly into the ground floor of the Primary School wing.

The Main Building

Ground level

A large and luminous foyer serves as the entry point to the main building. The administrative offices are immediately to the right, including the Director’s office. A visitor’s lounge, meeting rooms and an equipped infirmary can also be found in this area.

Lower level

The multipurpose Auditorium, which serves as the cafeteria and theatre, lies on the lower ground level of the main building.

It is accessed from the foyer via a staircase that descends the length of the fully glassed north face of the building; this staircase is mirrored by staircase on the outside that descends to the basketball court.

At one end of the Auditorium is the theatre stage. This can also be used as a rehearsal room when the cafeteria is being used. Large drama and music rooms adjoin the rear of the stage, with separate practice rooms.

The Auditorium accommodates up to 200 students during each of the lunch services and up to 300 seated spectators for conferences or used as a theatre for shows.

First floor

The first floor of the main building houses the Primary and Secondary School libraries, with an adjoining IT rooms and Staff room.

Sports

Sports Hall

Adjacent to the main building, on the eastern edge of the property, and connected through an underground passage, is a magnificent Sports Hall. It is fully equipped for a variety of sports. Three rows of seating run the length of a spectator’s balcony.

Outside Sports Areas

The grass football pitch has been recently re-sown and is used for both PE and sports teams.

A basketball court is located outside the Auditorium, behind the central building. A grass amphitheatre is carved into the embanked land.

An all-weather multi-sport arena is situated to the west of the Clubhouse. This area is used for PE and sports classes, as well as for ball games and recess.

A covered playing area is located immediately to the rear of the main building.
