Philosophy

The art programme should open the eyes and minds of the students to the richness of the visual arts as a unique form of human communication.  It should also convey the idea that the arts enrich life best when they are experienced, understood and enjoyed as integral parts of the process of living.

Aims

The aims are to engage students in a new, expanded awareness of the visual arts and to help them realise their own innate creativity by:

  • working in depth
  • linking and exploring alternatives
  • gaining knowledge of materials
  • learning about and understanding historical traditions
  • using the old in a new and exciting way
  • combining old techniques with new technologies
  • encouraging sound work habits and respect for materials, tools and utensils.

We have introduced an art programme, Art Connections, for Years 1 – 6.  Art Connections builds the foundations of the elements and principles of art across all levels, as the programme integrates art history and culture, aesthetic perception, creative expression in art production and art criticism into every lesson.
