Information Technology

Philosophy

Information Technology is taught as a subject in its own right as well as being integrated across the curriculum.  We seek to give students the experience in creating, finding, organising, storing, retrieving and transferring data.  Within the curriculum, Information Technology will be used when it is thought to enhance learning or where certain uses of IT should be known.  The acquisition of such knowledge and skills, along with the concepts associated with them, will assist in learning, organisation and creativity.

Aims

The Information Technology Curriculum aims to:

  • establish a variety of IT experiences which are consistent with the aims of the school,
  • ensure that all students increase their awareness of IT,
  • assist students in the development of IT skills,
  • enable students to relate their IT experiences to the world outside school,
  • stimulate and foster interest and enjoyment in the use of IT,
  • encourage students to use IT as a problem-solving tool, where appropriate,
  • give students greater responsibility for their own organisation and learning.
