IB Middle Years Programme
The Middle Years Programme is an international
curriculum framework designed to help students develop the knowledge,
understanding, attitudes and skills necessary to participate actively and
responsibly in a changing world. Known as the MYP, it is a part of the IB
continuum at ISL, linking with the Primary Years Programme (IBPYP) and the
Diploma Programme (IBDP).
The Middle Years Programme is designed to meet the
educational requirements of students in the 11-16 age range. This holistic
programme is concerned with developing intercultural awareness and strong
communication skills within a framework of interrelated disciplines.
In the summer of 2006, the International School of
Lausanne received candidate status and began implementing the MYP during the
2006-2007 academic year, starting with Year 7 (Level 1 of the MYP). In June
2008 full authorisation was given.
The Curriculum Model
The curriculum model places the students at the centre.
Surrounding this are five areas of interaction. These areas are found
throughout the teaching of the individual subjects, which are placed around
the outside.
