Head of After-School Activities and Competitive Sports

Full-time permanent position from 1 August 2020

Within the holistic framework of our school, the ASA programme provides every student with the opportunity to explore their talents, develop new skills, and be successful beyond the classroom. It also lays the groundwork for them to remain active and involved throughout their lives. The ASA programme covers more than 125 activities that complement the academic programme – indoor and outdoor, competitive and recreational, well-being, music, art, technology and science activities.

The Head of After-School Activities and Competitive Sports reports to the School Director and is part of the Operational Leadership Team of the School. S/he leads a team of two administrators and around 75 coaches and activity leaders.

Major responsibilities

  • Providing leadership for the ASA team, and creating energy and dynamism in the programme
  • Managing both the overall strategic direction and the day-to-day operation of the programme
  • Ensuring ongoing innovation and development so that students have access to a broad, balanced and constantly evolving programme of activities
  • Ensuring the preparation of the master calendar and the effective scheduling of events
  • Planning resources for the good running of the programme
  • Hiring, evaluating and developing the coaching team; setting clear performance expectations and following up consistently
  • Ensuring effective and timely communication to parents, students, staff and the wider community
  • Developing processes and systems to improve the efficiency of services delivered
  • Monitoring student involvement, as well as parent and student satisfaction
  • Ensuring the highest level of safety and well-being of all participants of the programme
  • Contributing actively to the wider strategic development of the school
  • Representing the school at national and international school associations and conferences

Desired profile

  • A self-motivated, proactive and passionate individual, with successful experience in managing sports or recreational activities at a large scale
  • A degree in Sports Science/ Management may be an asset
  • Excellent organisational skills with a can-do attitude and the ability to multi-task
  • Experience in planning and timetabling, as well as managing staff and budgets
  • Ability to think at a strategic level, combined with the capacity to take actions quickly at ground level
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to build relationships and to solve conflicts with sensitivity and composure
  • The energy and drive to motivate colleagues coupled with the ability to provide clear direction and accountability
  • Ability to personally model our core values: honesty, respect, openness, equality, self-control, and care and concern for others
  • Capacity to initiate and manage change with flair and creativity
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; knowledge of French is a strong asset
  • Excellent ICT skills with a focus on improving systems and processes
  • Commitment to self-reflection and professional development
