Accreditation

We are proud that the School was reaccredited in November 2011 by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and the Council of International Schools (CIS). Both independent associations support schools in continuous improvement through a rigorous process of self and peer evaluation.

Accreditation is an ongoing process and ISL is required to continually meet the highest standards in staffing, academic programmes, and campus facilities. In November 2011, our school welcomed representatives from CIS and NEASC for the Reaccreditation Visit. As with any such visit, they made recommendations, all of which were in line with our plans for ongoing development. Pleasingly, they also recognised the progress we had made since 2001 and the high standards throughout the school. Here are some extracts of the 2011 Reaccreditation Report:

“The International School of Lausanne (ISL) is recognised as the excellent school of choice for families in the Lausanne area. The School has established a Mission and Aims statement in which they commit themselves to the pursuit of “excellence in education.” Their focus is on the Learner, and “…striving to fulfil the unique potential of each student in a supportive and challenging holistic learning environment…”. The School is thereby driven by a Mission that sets extremely high performance expectations. In a word, they aspire to achieve greatness. This elusive goal, while attainable, is difficult for any organisation to sustain consistently. Many factors, some beyond the control of the organisation, intersect to guide or alter the course of this quest. Adversity notwithstanding, the only way to achieve greatness is to undertake the journey. Much to their credit, ISL has willingly accepted this challenge. Under the leadership of a strong supportive Board, guided by the wisdom of a caring and capable Director, ISL has assembled a world-class faculty of international educators who demand the highest academic performance from their students within a supportive environment of pastoral care. The Visiting Team believes that, based upon the observation that the mission-driven purpose of the School is supported by practically every adult at the School, and that the Mission and Aims have been inculcated into every aspect of student life, the International School of Lausanne has a place among the best of international schools.”

The Visiting Team made numerous commendations about all aspects of the School. Below are a few examples typical of their comments.

“Students and teachers alike appeared to be sympathetic to the needs of those around them and strived to do their best in both academic and social settings. Students feel emotionally, physically, socially and academically safe and enjoy a bond and close attachment to the full range of community members, fellow students, faculty and staff alike.”

“This is a school which is proud of itself and what it aspires to be, and has every reason to be so.”

“The Visiting Team experienced a very warm and welcoming community atmosphere at ISL. From the Senior Leadership Team, the members of teaching staff and ancillary staff, the students and parents, there was a clear indication of a strong mutual respect and positive recognition of all members of the school community.”
