In this final unit, students synthesised the skills they developed throughout the school year to design their own collaborative class project. Working primarily in the recording studio, this group recorded their own rendition of the song “Californication” by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Captivated by the song’s provocative challenge to an increasingly consumption-oriented society, the students each learned a different part of the song on their voices and instruments, proceeding to arrange, record, edit, and mix the final track, with only minimal teacher support. The final outcome is a testament to their musical proficiency as players, singers, producers, and studio engineers. Click on the video below to hear their music!
