In this unit, students performed and analysed a range of classic jazz standards such as “Autumn Leaves”, “Mack the Knife”, and “All the things you Are”. They also experimented with different approaches to improvisation and arrangement for jazz ensembles. After investigating the development of jazz music over the course of the 20th century, students designed their own final project in which they used music technology to arrange, record, edit, and present their own adaptation of a jazz standard.
