Emma Cleaver, French

Teacher of French, Teacher of English as an Additional Language

Emma Cleaver was born in Chamonix (France) and grew up bilingual thanks to her mother. She left her town when she was 17 years old to study British and American history and Literature in Grenoble. Emma completed a Masters then left to be a Language assistant in Norwich (UK) in a private all-girls school. Very interesting experience, which turned out to be the turning point: “I decided I wanted to become a teacher then. Therefore, I never came back to France and completed a PGCE in French and German at University of East Anglia (Norwich) and a Masters in Advanced Educational Practice, specialized in Leadership and Management. I taught in private and public, boarding and day, all girls and mixed schools. I had the most amazing time in the UK and ended up becoming Head of Department in Language Specialist secondary school in Ipswich (UK). I lead a team of 14 dedicated and enthusiastic teachers.”
Attending job fairs in London made her realize what a fantastic institution ISL is, “its reputation preceded it.” Emma started teaching at ISL in 2015, and especially likes how students say thank you at the end of a lesson. She loves the cheese in Switzerland, and more seriously, she likes that everything runs like clockwork.
