In this unit, students explored how music can be used for description. From film and television to concert music and sound installations, music can be used to reflect, enhance, or even transform an idea through sound. For the final project in the unit, each student created their own piece of descriptive music. Students were asked to evoke an image, scene, or emotion by carefully considering the use of musical elements in their compositions. Click on the videos below to hear some of their outstanding work!
In this composition, Peter aimed to describe the image of gentle rain beginning to fall, before developing into a furious thunderstorm.
In this composition, Oliver aimed to describe the image of a creepy haunted house. He chose to write for full orchestra, using Logic Pro X software.
