Dragons Den at ISL! Investors Wanted!

In our MYP Year 11 Product Design class, students are exploring a unit which is very much inspired from the British TV show, Dragons’ Den (`Shark Tank` being the American version). We are in need of around 2-3 (preferably female due to the desire for a balanced group) volunteers made up of people with a background in business and entrepreneurialism to be hypothetical “investors” who would enjoy listening to Year 11 students pitching their product, brand, and marketing strategy.

The “investors” will then have an opportunity to provide feedback and ask questions before giving a verdict on whether they would hypothetically invest in the product and the students behind it. This is a summative task for the students, yet the decision on “investment” has no influence on levels.

Therefore, I invite you to be one of the “investors” on the panel. Each class consists of at least 5 groups pitching.  This will involve you being available to dop in on the class beforehand but also being on the panel when they pitch. The timings are below.

Drop in sessions can be during any of the following time over the next few weeks.

  • Design class 1 : Tuesdays 08:45-10:05 OR Fridays 13:35-14:55
  • Design class 2 : Mondays 11:15-12:35 OR Wednesdays 14:20-15:40
  • Design class 3 : Tuesdays 14:20-15:40  OR Thursdays 13:35-14:55

The final pitches will be

  • Design class 1 - Friday 20 June (13:35-15:40) – L.Dodson
  • Design class 2 - Wednesday 18 June (11.15-13:00) – L.Dodson
  • Design class 3 Tuesday 22 June  (13:35-15:40) – S.Carville

Also, if you know someone who is a design professional, we would hugely appreciate having her or him involved, as we want to replicate the real life scenario as best we can and as it would be refreshing to have an industry expert’s point of view.

If this opportunity interests you, please email me for more information.

Thank you.
