Over the last few years, ISL has become a much larger school. This increase in size brings its challenges, not least ensuring that there is a consistent connection between parents, teachers, students, alumni and the Lausanne community. A school of nearly 1000 students produces a lot of information and Gradient is a chance to delve a little deeper into the lives of those who live, work and study at the school.
One intention of the magazine is to introduce you to our diverse and fascinating community, and to see how their individual and collective stories shape life at ISL, making it a unique experience. This first edition of Gradient tells the story of our school, going beyond the pure academics. It is the story of the ISL community told by the ISL community.
In this issue we take a look at what the future holds for education, we discover the passion of a student who created her own record label and meet a teacher who spends her free-time circus training. You will experience 24 busy hours in the life of one of our families, meet some of our alumni and see how our secondary students are reacting to some of the biggest challenges of the 21st century.
Why Gradient? In physics, a gradient is an increase in the magnitude of a property observed in passing from one point or moment to another. This is the purpose of our school, to help children successfully move from one state to the next, to help them grow to reach their full potential, and become purposeful, confident adults.
What you will read and see has been produced by ISL students, parents and staff. They have helped create the pages and the stories you are reading. I would like to thank them for their hard work and input. We hope you enjoy Gradient and please don’t hesitate to give us your impressions of this first issue – and anything you would like to see in the next edition.
